FUE (Follicular Unit Exraction): Minimally Invasive Surgery for Hair Transplantation:

Scalp hair groups in in  naturally occuring groups  called  Follicular Unit. Each  follicular unit contains  1-4 hairs. In Follicular Unit Transplantation, a single strip of skin is harvested  from the scalp in the back of the head , and then , using the special microscope or loops the strip is  dissected  into individual, naturally occuring groups of 1-4 hairs. This technique has many advantages. These include completely natural results,  no scarring in the recipient area,  fast healing  and the ability  to perform  large sessions  so that the restoration can be completed in a short time span.

The disadvantage of this technique  is that  the postoperative development of linear  and cosmetically  embarressing  donor area scars  athough  the scar is generally fine.

In the FUE technique, individual follicular units are extracted directly  from the donor area, without the traditional  linear incision in the back of the scalp.

The wounds  don’t require  suturing  and heal  within one week.  Advantages of this technique  are  that it leaves a virtually  imperceptible in donor area and  physical activities  are not limited post operatively as they are by the linear excision of the traditional surgery. We can summerize  some important benefits  of FUE  opposed  traditional methods;

                       -Less bleeding,

                       -No visible scars,

                       -Less recovery time

                       -No scalpels, no sutures,

-No limited physical activities post operatively.

FUE was performed  using tiny punches  to seperate  follicular units  from the surrounding tissue down  to a point  just deep  to the arrector pili muscle.

Once this structure  is cut the graft can be exracted intact. Grafts ranging  from 1-4 hairs  each have been exracted. Maximum 800 grafts can remove in a single day.

              FUE  Indications:

                1-The young patient,

2-The patient who desires a short hair style,

3-The patient who wants the least invasive surgery,

                4-The active patient,

5-The patient who wants a procedure that does no produce a linear scar,

6-Hair restoration of old strip scars,

7-The treatment of spcialty cases  of hair loss (eyebrow, eyelash, moustache, pubic hair e.t.c)

Body Hair Transplantation (BHT):

BHT  is a technique  that has started to be applied  in a few years. This short history of the BHT is the main reason why we need the procedure as stil being on an experimental basis.
